White Mountains hike
The summit of Pachnes (2456m) is located at the centre of the White Mountains, the biggest mountain range in Crete.
We start from Chania and head up to Anopolis (Sfakia region). From there, a 4×4 vehicle will take us to the end of a dirt track (21 kms) at the altitude of 1950 meters.
We follow the track to the peak and find ourselves “in the heart of a high desert”, a landscape that is geologically unique on earth.
The walk up to the summit takes about 2 hours. It is one of the easiest and safest hikes of this region. The mountain breeze up there is ideal for the hot Cretan summer…After a short break on the peak with the panoramic 360 breathtaking view we head down the path.
On our way back to Chania we have a refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters of the Libyan Sea.
