Off the beaten track
Crete, the southernmost island of Europe, is a unique place, a small planet within itself.
The region of Sfakia is located in the south-west part of the island and it is one of the most isolated and at the same time one of the most authentic areas of Cretan land. Thus, the specific area forms the base for ‘‘Natour-Lab’s’’ outdoor activities.
Having our precious experience and a great network of people and services, Natour Lab has designed for 2017 an interactive programme of combinatorial hiking routes, covering the needs of the most demanding travelers.
The mountainous guesthouse Alonia has been selected as Natour Lab’s base camp. It is located at the end of the road network, in the village of Agios Ioannis at an altitude of more than 750m.
We are at the southern foothills of the White Mountains, an impressive mass with 50 peaks measuring over 2.000m. The highest peak of this mountain chain is located at its centre, reaching the height of 2.456m and is called Pachnes.
Dozens of mapped and uncharted foot trails just a few meters and kilometers away from the guesthouse, provide the opportunity for numerous combinations of leisure activities; from mild walks to long mountain crossings (for the most demanding).
Furthermore, our guests will be given the chance of hiking into the woodlands, cross gorges which end up at the crystal clear water of the Libyan sea and climb up at the top of the White Mountains. Wonder in the alpine desert at an altitude of 2000m, walk the coastal trail E4 and discover numerous hidden natural “balconies” capturing the breathtaking view of Southern Crete.
3 indicative programmes with duration of 2, 3, and 4 days respectively have been planned. They are addressed towards people who love outdoor activities deep into the nature, away from all the hustle and bustle of the civilized urban landscape.
Our paths will end up early every afternoon at the kitchen of the guesthouse Alonia, in which we will be residing, in order to feel the warm and cozy atmosphere created by the people and the surroundings. In addition, we will be dining with local seasonal products prepared with extra care and love by our production team.
Moreover, special presentations with topics of the flora and fauna of the area will be shown, as well as optional hands-on cooking workshops will be available in the 4 days programme.
